Choosing a closure size

A 5x5 closure gives you a five by five inch parting area, which is enough for a middle or side part. A 9x9 gives you close to four times that, so you can part deep, wear it pulled back, or change your part daily without exposing the edge of the closure. If you restyle often, size up.

Choosing a length

Short units are less maintenance. A 10 or 14 inch wig has no length to tangle at the nape and survives daily wear far better than a 28 inch unit. Long lengths look fuller but need a bonnet at night, a wig stand for storage and detangling from the ends up before every wash.

Curly, wavy or straight

Human hair curls and waves reset after washing, so the pattern comes back. Heat straightening works but is the main cause of permanent pattern loss, so use a protectant and keep the temperature moderate.
